The Westmoreland Arts and Heritage Festival presents live, non-stop, contemporary, traditional, classical and folk music on three stages. Visitors enjoy poetry and short story readings, performance artists, theater, dance, old-time fiddlers, polka and marching bands, oldies groups, bluegrass, country and rock & roll.

Kellie Lynne and her high-energy country band enjoy performing their music at family festivals such as ours—giving her the opportunity to entertain and excite fans of all ages.   Recently, Kellie Lynne was selected as a national finalist for the NBC television series “Nashville Star”, and she and her band have opened for such greats as Loretta Lynn, Aaron Tippin, The Povertyneck Hillbillies, Craig Morgan and many more!   She has also performed at the world-famous “Apollo Theater” in Harlem, NYC on the television program “Showtime at the Apollo”—now THAT’s impressive.

This Pittsburgh-based band has a long history of fusing solid roots rock reggae grooves over world rhythms.  Formed in the 1980s, they have shared the stage with greats such as Ziggy Marley, Andrew Tosh, Jimmy Buffet, UB40 and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.  Their constant positive vibes “generate from the Island of Pittsburgh”, as this joyful group of musicians like to say!

Lou and his seasoned band of jazz musicians have an endless roster of past performances with many of the big names we all know and love.  He has appeared with Woody Herman, Lawrence Welk, Stan Kenton and the Dorsey Brothers, along with vocalists Tony Bennett, Connie Stevens and Bob Hope, to name just a few.  Visitors to the Festival can enjoy the exceptional and timeless classic music of big bands and jazz that Lou and his band will present.

Mojo Nation brings Rock, Soul, Pop and alternative music together to form a sound that’s not only melodic but insightful, upbeat and FUN!  The band was formed in 2005 by longtime members of the East Coast power trio, Sam’s House.  An eclectic brand of funk, reggae, hip hop tinged rock and soul keeps the band’s sound a constant evolution of unique and powerful music.

This Pittsburgh-based band will present a smokin’ hot set of blues tunes—driven by two guitars, harmonica, keyboards and vocals.   Mahajibee has played dozens of regional concert series, benefits, festivals and popular blues events and have shared the spotlight with the likes of Johnny Angel and the Halos, Deep Purple, Billy Price, Pat Travers, Tinsley Ellis and more.  They’ve also produced several CDs featuring live and studio performances.  Yes, it’s a case of ‘cryin’ the blues’, but this time, you’ll be wanting to hear it all. . .

These talented guys from Latrobe certainly know how to entertain a crowd!   Singer Mike Garris makes his way into the audience and effortlessly interacts with fans.  Guitarist Jay Pfeifer shows off some searing guitar work with a bit of lead and background vocals tossed in.   You won’t find a more solid bass player than Tom Agnolucci, and he, along with drummer Brandon Barnhart, form a tight driving bottom end for the band to build upon.  The newest addition to the band, Jimmy Zamerski, adds a different flavor with his keyboards/guitar/vocals musicianship and stage presence.  Together they form “the area’s hottest country band’ and are anxious to throw down some tunes for our Festival visitors.

The collective talents of this seven-man pop/rock band is styled from the look and feel of the ‘60s and early ‘70s.  The band flawlessly replicates the harmonic vocals and visual perspectives of the American and British pop/rock scene of the era.  They’ve opened for The Beach Boys and The Monkees, and released several popular sport theme songs for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins played at the games and on the radio.  Grooooovy, man!

This local singer-songwriter is quite well known about town, and has been performing at intimate and large regional venues for over two decades.  Shirley promises to deliver a set of exceptional well-known and original songs for Festival visitors.  She has opened for many major acts at the Post Gazette Pavilion, Seven Springs, Indian Lake and various other venues—they include Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn, Kenny Chesney and many others.  She also boasts an original CD, “Rambler”, just recently released.

 
6:30 - 8:00 Pittsburgh Doo Wop Big Band

Under the direction of seasoned Pittsburgh Arranger/Conductor Richard Mansfield, this big band brings your favorite Doo Wop tunes of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.   Expert Pittsburgh-based vocalists Lori Russo and Bobby Wayne will play favorite tunes such as “At Last”, “Tonight”, “Respect”, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” and many more, along with hits from favorite artists The Chiffons, Etta James, The Spinners, Edwin Starr, The Temptations and more.  It’s jazz, R&B, and doo wop done in a BIG way!

This variety band is based in Northwest Ohio, and over the past decade or so, their music has nicely evolved with its delightfully diverse musicians with backgrounds from the Midwest.  Squeezebox pleases crowds of all ages and backgrounds with music ranging from Polka to Big Band and specializes in dance music with vocals in English, German, Czech and Polish.

The Bricks’ music is best classified as classic acoustic rock with some country, bluegrass and folk.  Formerly with 3 Bricks Shy, Tim Lint on acoustic rhythm guitar, lead vocals and harmonica, and Sam Paul on acoustic lead guitar and harmony vocals, play many of the songs from the 3BS repertoire along with nearly two dozen new tunes.

This girls-n-guys band serves up a special mix of feel-good, bluesy jam-rock originals and cover songs.  Patti, Pittsburgh’s sweetheart of the electric guitar, is a creative, passionate lead guitarist/singer/songwriter who has recorded several CDs and has performed all over the country.  Janelle Burdell, Jeff Rosenthal and Ken Lamison round out this exciting and dynamic band to present music that “brings people together, opens and inspires minds, and makes a difference in the world—it’s also a whole lot of fun!”

This talented group of young performers are students at Stage Right! School for Performing Arts, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing affordable education and professional
entertainment to our community.  The Sensations have performed for community events in venues such as Idlewild and Hershey Parks and, of course, right here at our own annual Festival!  They also were invited to perform at Epcot at Disney World and are featured performers at The Palace Theatre.

This artist whips up a feast of classic American songs and stirs in a healthy helping of humor for family audiences and all ages to enjoy.  Ray’s latest album achieved national airplay and went on to be selected as a candidate for a Grammy!  He has performed at numerous state fairs, national festivals and the Nashville Network, and has performed with such greats as Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr. and Bob Hope.  It’s not hard to imagine why he has so much popular appeal to mixed and family audiences.

In the belief that a choir of volunteer signers could be trained to perform on a very high level, Dr. Roderick Booker, the Director of Music at WCCC,  established this community choir in 2007.  Dr. Booker’s long and successful career in musical teaching and direction is well known in the community, and though retired from a long and successful tenure with the Hempfield Area School District, his passion for music continues to thrive through groups such as the Westmoreland County Community College Choir.  The choir boasts 100 members and has performed locally and regionally in venues such as PNC Park, local churches, Chamber of Commerce events, the State Capital Building in Harrisburg and in Washington, DC.

This 38-member ensemble has singers and full instrumentation, comprised of students and community members from a variety of backgrounds, driven by their passion for big band literature.  This newly formed group, just over a year old, is under the leadership of Dr. Roderick Booker who is now in his 38th year as a music director in our community.  The band plays instrumental selections from Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glen Miller and Woody Herman, and vocal selections are from Frank Sinatra, Etta James and Lou Rawls.  Though newly formed, this band has already performed locally for community galas and professional gatherings.

Hailing from Philadelphia, this all-star group boasts colorful personnel who present a blend of Cajun two-steps, New Orleans rhythm & blues and swinging Louisiana rock & roll—they then season this musical “gumbo” with exotic tropical rhythms like punta, cumbia, calypso and forro.   At the heart of Zydeco-A-Go-Go’s songs are the classic zydeco sounds of accordion and frattoir (rubboard) with saxophone, electric guitar, electric bass and drums, and feature lyrics sung in English, Spanish, Cajun and Creole French.  With Zydeco-A-Go-Go, you know it’s gonna be a wild and swingin’ pitch-a-wang-dang-doodle dance party!

The Old Time Fiddler's Contest is a time-honored tradition of the Festival. Each year, dozens of local and regional fiddlers vie for cash and awards at the Laurel Stage on Saturday afternoon. The year is 1939—and one type of music can be heard in the smoky bars over the hum of dirty neon lights, or in front of a frenzied mob of jitterbug fanatics, or in Dixieland where musicians are swinging the blues on street corners.  Now, fast forward to the 21st century, where Neon Swing X-perience is playing (and reinventing) the swing sounds of the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s.   Put on a Glenn Miller record and speed it up, then add the heart and soul of a rockabilly band.  Turn up the horns.  Give Louis Armstrong a shot of whiskey and a cigar and send him onstage to sing.  Mix in some vintage Americana music styles and serve it HOT—that’s the Neon Swing X-perience!

Founder and fiddle player for The Povertyneck Hillbillies, Chris has a following that spans all generations and packs in crowds from all over the state and along the East Coast.  The Chris Higbee Project, Chris’s new venture, combines the talent and passion of several diverse musicians and provides an exciting must-see show for everyone.  Fans will be entertained with witty banter and friendly rapport between band members AND Chris’ ability to play the fiddle in many different ways and “locations”.  Their range of music encompasses everything from bluegrass to old country to the more modern edgy sounds of today.  The band also writes their own music including the hits “Watchin’ Me”, “Write to Me”, and “Break Me Down” (now heard on Froggy Radio).  Chris also wrote The Povertyneck Hillbillies hit “Comin’ to See You”.

This Christian group is from the East Liverpool, Ohio area and plays original upbeat contemporary Christian music.  Band members John, Pat, Larry, Zach and Dave (and sometimes Dave H. and Bill) named their band in reference to the very recognizable Bible scripture John 3:16 which begins “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. . .”.  They connect well with a variety of age groups with their upbeat and energetic “classic rock” sound while delivering a positive Christian message.

 
3:45 - 5:15 Don Obusek's Tribute to the Magic of Elvis

This award-winning Elvis impersonator is the “Official ELVIS for 3WS Radio” and ranks among the finest tribute entertainers in the U.S.  Don gives a theatrical performance of “The King” and demonstrates his amazing vocal skills as he strolls among the audience wearing a replica of an original Elvis suit.  It’s a classy tribute featuring all-time favorite Elvis hits delivered with plenty of charisma and interaction—he even hands out an occasional silk scarf in true Elvis fashion.

This quartet specializes in Klezmer music—the exhilarating music originating from Jewish culture and indigenous to Central and Eastern Europe.  They also perform soulful Jewish folk songs and the light and jazzy sounds of the Yiddish theatre.  Enjoy the sounds of the violin, clarinet, keyboard and percussion—a delightful combination that extends this group’s repertoire to swing, classical and international favorites.

David has been performing his unique mixture of folk, blues and bluegrass for over 25 years.  With a rich tenor voice and a mastery of the guitar, dobro, mandolin and dulcimer, this former nuclear engineer (wow!) has turned to full-time musician—complete with several original works on released CDs.  David has performed alongside the Johnson Mountain Boys, Harvey Reid, Emmy Lou Harris, and the Seldom Scene, and has been on stage for over 200 audiences from Minnesota to Florida.

“I suppose my music is what some of the new folks call Americana, but we just used to call it country, country rock with bluegrass, rock ‘n roll and some countryfied R & B thrown in as well.”  Marty took a long hiatus from his music, but with encouragement and instruction from several seasoned fellow artists and “boomers”, this Jeannette-based performer is making a comeback, performing with electric and acoustic guitar and mandolin.

You’re in for a barrel of laughs with Matt’s performance that features fun and electrifying routines showcasing his extraordinary talents as a top juggler.  Whether on five-star cruise lines, theme parks, festivals, schools or at corporate functions, he has always left his audiences in veritable stitches.  His unusual props include bowling balls, razor sharp knives and more, and volunteers are encourage to assist in the tricks and stunts—always coming out the hero to friends and family in the audience.  You’ll want to “juggle” your time at the Festival to include catching this fabulous act.
